Leigh Town Council ran a Seed Bomb event for children at Leigh Community Centre - which proved to be a big hit with the youngsters.

It is a part of the council’s ongoing effort to provide fun and affordable activities for schoolchildren during the summer holidays.

Abbie Cottrell, the event organiser at Leigh Town Council, said the council worked together with South East Essex Organic Gardeners to organise workshops for children to learn how to plant seeds.

Seed Bomb also enables the council to support the the Charter of Tree, Woods and People, which is Woodland Trust’s initiative to build a more sustainable future for people and trees.

Ms Cottrell said: “There were 19 children at the workshop learning about organic planting and compost. They also planted a salsa garden and made yoghurt which they got to take home and try.

“This is the second time the event has run and it’s very popular. The workshop also educates children to be more environmentally aware.”

The next Seed Bomb will be in October. Leigh Town Council is also running other events during the summer.

Activities include an arts and craft session, a magic show by Marko Sparko, a Beauty and the Beast themed dance workshop and a Jolly Kids Castle.
