TUNES are set to continue to be played on Basildon Hospital’s radio station thanks to donations from Basildon and Billericay’s Round Table.

The radio station, BHR 1287, which entertains patients at Basildon Hospital and is available via the internet for local listeners, was struggling with its outdated computers.

The donation of £3,000 from Billericay Round Table and £1,500 from Basildon Round Table has allowed the station to upgrade its operating system to help things run more smoothly.

Jacqui James, chairman at BHR 1287, said: “We have been busy raising money for more than 18 months, with quizzes, sponsored events and selling off old CDs. Despite the generosity of local people we were still only halfway towards the sum we needed to upgrade our computers.

“It is absolutely wonderful to receive such a generous donation from the local Round Table. We are all very excited to be able to work with a more modern system to keep the station on air for patients and local people.”
