Burglars have targeted 108 homes across the Baildon in the last fortnight.

This has prompted police to issue pictures of the borough’s most wanted burglary suspects.

In the whole of June, burglars raided exactly the same number of homes.

In a new effort to trace the people responsible for the break-ins, police are asking for the public’s help to track down these suspects.

Police want to trace Warren Gordon, 30. He is black, 6ft 2ins tall and slim.

He has a scar on his face, the word “mum” tattooed on his neck, the word “warrior” tattooed on his left arm, and a pair of hands tattooed on his right arm.

They also want to trace Michael Howe, 27, and Lewis Wright-Bailey, 19, who both have links to Basildon.

Officers are also keen to see if anybody has seen Gary McPherson, 35, who is wanted in connection with a burglary and a shoplifting offence in Basildon.

Detectives in Basildon, supported by the town’s local and community policing teams in the town, told how they have been working around the clock, and carrying out additional patrols, to catch those responsible.

A crackdown, codenamed Operation Cuba, has been launched to target the most prolific offenders in the area and bring them to justice.

In the past ten days, as part of the crackdown, officers have arrested 12 people on suspicion of burglary alone.

Seven people have been remanded in custody..

Det Chief Insp Neil Pudney, of Basildon police, wants the public’s help in finding those under suspicion of burgling homes.

He said: “We understand residents will be concerned by the spike in burglaries.

“One victim of burglary is one too many.

“The effects of this crime cannot be underestimated, with many victims left frightened to be in their own home.

“But we are not taking this lightly and, under Operation Cuba, have detectives and specialist teams working around the clock to target the offenders responsible.

“In the last ten days alone we have made 12 arrests and there will be more, of that you can be sure.

“There has been no particular pattern with the burglaries we have seen and for that reason we would ask homeowners to take simple steps to ensure their homes are not left vulnerable.

“Please keep homes locked and windows secure when you are not at home and please ensure vehicle keys are kept in a safe place.” If you have information about burglary in your area contact police on 101 - or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
