Barleylands got the first of its summer events, Go Wild, off to a flying start as families flocked to the Billericay farm.

Manager Dave Finkle was delighted with the overwhelming attendance.

He said: “We had thousands of people coming to the farm across the week. The weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. British people are always prepared go out, even in bad weather. There were lots of happy faces”

Go Wild encouraged children to head outdoors to look for, and identify, the different types of insects inside the farm land.

He added children thorough enjoyed the experience and Barleylands’ new aviary received a positive response from visitors, saying: “There are over a hundred birds in the aviary. There are canaries, finches and doves.”

Barleylands is running the second of its summer events, Animal Magic, until Friday

Mr Finkle said: “Animal Magic allows everybody to go up close and personal to hand feed our animals. Children can learn about what it’s like to care for them.”

There are calves, rabbits, goats and lambs for children to hand feed.

Barleylands is also running the Treasure Hunters event from August 7 to 11. Visitors will be provided with maps to navigate their way to Old Gold Creek and pan for gold.
