Former Seevic College student Emily Scott is to missed the Women’s Rugby World Cup after being sidelined by an unspecified injury.

The fly-half had been hoping to help England defend their world crown in competition which gets underway in Ireland next week.

But Scott will now not be travelling with the squad and expressed her disappointment on Twitter.

Scott said: “I’m absolutely gutted to be injured at such a late stage.

“Thank you for all your messages.

“I’ll be staying positive and rehabbing hard but I couldn’t have been on the journey with this bunch.

“Go out there and bring it home girls.

“I’m backing you all the way,”

Scott will be replaced by forward Poppy Cleall, who has won 12 caps and featured in all of England’s Six Nations Tests earlier this year.

But England’s head coach Simon Middleton knows Scott will react well to the setback.

And he also suggested she could be on standby for the latter stages of the competition.

“While it is disappointing for Emily, we know she will rehab diligently,” said Middleton, “She will be working closely with our medical team over the coming weeks.

“We hope to have her fit and ready on standby if required later in the tournament.

Scott - who lined up for the Team GB sevens team in the Rio Olympics last summer - was on the replacements bench when England beat New Zealand in Rotorua earlier this year.

The 25-year-old first played rugby for Stanford le Hope and also spent several seasons with Thurrock T Birds before joining Saracens.
