Passengers were enraged after the train doors opened before the train pulled into the platform - and it led to two people getting hurt.

Those on the 4.43pm train from Southend Central were left in dismay as the 12 carriage-long-train stopped well short of a Benfleet platform.

Left with no choice passengers began to jump off and one elderly man actually fell injuring his head.

Another passenger, a woman was left with leg injuries.

C2c bosses have promised a full investigation and said they offered passengers medical assistance, which wasn’t needed.

Meanwhile, a passenger told on Facebook how the driver took full responsibility as he didn’t realise how many carriages he had pulling in. Although C2c has not commented on this.

One young girl stepped out of the train and was luckily caught by another young boy who had already leapt from the carriage.

Meanwhile other passengers helped children and mums with buggies get out of the carriages.

A spokesperson for c2c said: “We are carrying out a full investigation into the incident at Benfleet station on Monday. We offered medical assistance to the passengers involved at the time, although this wasn’t required, and senior c2c staff have been in direct contact with those affected customers.”

Several other witnesses have commented to the Echo. One said: “The train pulled up like normal and as the doors opened there was no platform for anybody to get out on.”

Others made comments on social media and Canvey Island Then and Now Facebook page.

One said: “This has happened to me before, a lady with a buggy nearly went over. Complain to c2c and they should give you travel vouchers.”

Another commented: “To those saying why didn’t you see, you don’t expect it to happen so you just go. Some young children could be really hurt by running out of the doors.”

Another said: “Well I’m 65 and disabled so I couldn’t have got off the train at all.

“So I suppose I’d have had to go to the end of the journey, then stay on the train and come back again.”
