SOUTH Essex College has been given a major boost from its most recent report from Ofsted.

The college, with bases in Southend, Basildon and Thurrock, received a “Good” rating from the education watchdog with further improvements in students’ results.

The report found that an increased number of students between 16 to 18 had moved on to university or to employment.

Students were also benefiting more from getting out the classroom and taking on work experience in the industries they plan on embarking on a career in and that when they were in the classroom, the quality of teaching and support staff was also very high.

Principal and chief executive of the college, Angela O’Donoghue, said: “This grade is a result of the hard work and dedication of our staff and students.

“The rating relectss our position as the college that strives to provide a positive learning environment for our students so they can learn, grow and achieve their ambitions.”

Ahead of the new term, which starts in September, the result is welcome news for the staff and students.
