Roads throughout Essex were flooded and are still affected after the floods from last night's torrential downpour.

The underpass below the A127 in Basildon is closed as a result of a large pool of water directly under the bridge.

Echo:

It is expected that the underpass will reopen in about an hour.

Issues have also been reported in Billericay and Wickford which have forced traffic to a stand still and some walk ways unusable.

Wickford Swim and Fitness Centre in Market Avenue was also closed yesterday with a member of the public saying that the men's changing rooms were leaking water.

The cause of the closure is not yet confirmed however.

One area hit hard by the flooding is Boytons, Basildon.

Andrew Gordon, Councillor for Basildon Borough Council said that the flooding come within half an inch of spilling into the homes of residents in the road.

He said: "There was a drain that was blocked. Residents have been regularly complaining, it was reported in 2012 and it has not been fixed."

Mr Gordon said that an Essex County Councillor was supposed to go to Boytons yesterday night between 10pm and 11pm to put down sandbags.

Other areas badly hit in Basildon include Cockerell Close. Claire Wateridge captured this footage on her dash camera.

There was also heavy flooding in Corringham. This water got three foot deep.
