DOGS of all breeds, colours, shapes and sizes took part in a fun dog show in Southend.

The annual Carnival Dog Show, run in conjunction with Southend Canine Society, took place yesterday at Priory Park, Victoria Avenue, Southend.

There were a number of pedigree classes, such as puppy, sporting breed and non sporting breed.

The best dog in show, reserve best in show and best puppy were also handed rosettes.

There were also novelty dog classes for everyone to have a go at.

These included fancy dress, best cross breed, junior handler, waggiest tail, best rescue and dog the judge would most like to take home.

Hundreds of people turned up to take part and also watch the competition unfold.

Luckily the day turned out to be sunny and everyone had a great time.

The events was run as part of Southend Carnival Events, which organises a number of different events throughout the year in the lead up to Southend Carnival, which is taking place on August 19 along Southend seafront.

There will be more than 60 floats and acts, making it one of the largest processions in the UK.

Other events include a beer festival, which also took place this weekend and a day of children’s activities on August 16. Visit southendcarnivalevents.org.uk
