SOUTHEND pier has been given a prestigious award by the Transport Trust.
The pier has been given a Red Wheel Plaque by the trust for its train.
Ann Holland, councillor responsible for culture, tourism and the economy said: “The trust gives the plaques to sites with significant transport heritage. Other sites which have recieved the plaques are Baker Street Station and Victoria Coach Station.
“We have been given the 91st plaque.”
Ms Holland added: “They recognised us and that’s really good. It’s quite an honour . It’s nice to think that our pier train has been recognised in this way.
“A lot of work has gone on the pier lately, including the new beach huts.
“I’m really grateful to all teh staff at the pier.
“They all pull together and work really hard to keep things running.”
