YET more flytipping has blighted south Essex after a dozen fridges were dumped in a Laindon Hills car park.

The large fridges freezers were stripped of their motors and left at Beacons Field car park in Dry Street, last week.

Some more were found to have been dumped further down Dry Street later in the week by a postbox in a layby outside Wootten House.

The fridges were eventually cleared by Thurrock Council on Thursday morning.

Nick Stanley, the warden for Beacons Park, was left frustrated by the fridges being dumped in the car park.

He also feared that there would be similar offences in the future as people would blieve they can get away with it without being traced.

He said: “There has been a spate of flytipping in the area lately.

“The problem is that they won’t be able to find the people who dumped them so they will just get away with it and it will no longer be their problem.

“Who’s to say they won’t come back and do it again if they know they can get away with it?

“It is very frustrating but I’m glad the council were able to clear it so quickly.

“Everyone suffers as a result of people littering and flytipping.

“It’s frustrating enough to see someone drop some fast food wrappers on the floor let alone a fridge in the car park.”

Essex county councillor, Kerry Smith suggested that the waste transfer licences that are needed by organisations should be properly enforced.

He said: “You need these licences if you wish to dispose of items like this.

“My concern is that people are unaware of them and therefore bypass it.

“It’s about time these licences were properly enforced so we can stop worrying about people dumping items and flytipping.”

He went on to urge people to take advantage of Basildon’s special collection service, where residents can have five items collected for just £10.
