The Essex Yacht Club ran its exciting annual Cadet Week which proved as popular as ever.

Nearly 100 sailors took to the water, even braving the cold days in the spirit of competition.

The week consisted of sailing and activities based around the club’s headquarters, located at HMS Wilton, Leigh.

The event is open to cadet members of all sailing abilities aged seven to 18. The three clubs, the EYC, the Leigh Sailing Club and 3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scouts took part in the race.

The winner of the coveted Race Fleet trophy was Luke Beuvink in his Laser and Toby Brown won the Optimist trophy.

Other winners included Ellen Randle who won a T-Shirt competition sponsored by Paul Robinson’s Solicitors, Southend.

Incumbent Cadet Captain Ellie Hervey won the 3C’s trophy (Courtesy, Character and Conduct) which was sponsored by Thorpe Hall School, Southend. The club also hosted social events, including a hoedown, a disco, mud Olympics, a paper boat race and a candlelit supper for the senior cadets.
