A cab driver who was allegedly assaulted in Shoebury last week remains in a critical condition.
The man, in his 60s, is believed to have been dropping three female teenage passengers off in Ness Road, Shoebury, at about 10.15pm on Wednesday.
The driver works for Southend-based AC Radio Cabs. It is understood that he suffered a head injury and cardiac arrest during the incident.
Steve Noakes, general manager of AC Radio Cabs, told The Echo: “He is still in a coma, we don’t know if he’ll be all right. He’s been in a coma since Wednesday and I hope he comes out of it.
“It’s been horrible for the family. I pray that he is all right. I am there for his family when they need me.”
Three teenage girls were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Paramedics treated the cabbie at the scene and he was taken to hospital by land ambulance.
Police confirmed two of the girls, aged 16 and 17, are from Shoebury and one, aged 16 is from Southend.
Tthe girls were released last Thursday under investigation.
