TWO vandals have admitted to damaging property in a car wrecking spree in Hullbridge.

Sam Kent, 26, of Dovervelt Road, Canvey, admitted to dangerous driving and five of ten counts of damaging property and Jak Bruce, 26, of Watchgate, Dartford, admitted to six of ten counts for damaging property.

The two men drove to the Pooles Lane car park in Hullbridge on May 25 and smashed the windscreens and bodywork of ten cars and vans in the car park.

Samantha Lowther, prosecuting said: “The total value of the damage is not yet calculated as we are waiting for the value of the other four vehicles, but the damage to the six cars could amount to £12,000.”

Judge Samantha Leigh said: “The Crown will need to assess the damage in the next two weeks, I will also ask for a pre-sentence report.”

Although Kent and Bruce denied some of the charges, Ms Lowther accepted the pleas and the two men will be sentenced in the week beginning October 2.

Judge Leigh said: “This is something where they have both gone down to the area.

“They were walking through the car park, holding baseball bats.”

Kent and Bruce were released on conditional bail ahead of their next appearance and Kent was disqualified from driving as a result of his dangerous driving offence.

Judge Leigh added: “The sentence hearing will be set for the week commencing October 2.

“That will give Miss Lowther enough time to get the figures for the damage caused to the other four vehicles.”

“Bail is as before.

“In relation to dangerous driving, you (Kent) will be disqualified as of today.”

Kent and Bruce will be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court at the beginning of next month.
