THE next phase of a new £30 million housing development is set to be unveiled next month - with the release of “highest specification” flats available.

The plush level nine and 10 of the development in Victoria Avenue, Southend will be launched in October, it has been revealed.

Developer Rendall Watts has worked to transform the former eyesore office blocks Heath House and Carby House, which have stood empty for more than a decade, into 280 luxury flats which have proved hugely popular among flat hunters. Prices are ranging between £190,000 to just below £300,000.

A spokesman for Rendall Watts said: “The project is really gaining momentum now, it is as busy inside as it is out. The new extension frames have arrived on site and are currently being constructed. We have sold in excess of 215 apartments, to a mixture of buy to let investors and owner-occupiers. We will be launching the highest specification apartments on levels nine and 10 in October 2017.”

Southend councillors have welcomed the news.

Mark Flewitt, councillor for housing, planning and sustainability said we must ensure there is enough affordable homes. He added: “I am pleased and am enthusiastic that the new homes are selling well.

“I think it will stimulate the economy in lots of ways including financially which is good news.

“It is also good news that the area and land is being developed at last.”

Anne Holland, councillor for culture, tourism and the economy said the new homes are in an ideal place. She added: “To see Victoria Avenue being developed is so good for Southend.

“It is also great to see that people are rushing to buy homes in the town. The homes are in a good place for commuters, the seafront and also the high street.”

Once completed, the blocks will be renamed Beaumont Court and Richmond House. The ground floor will have a range of retail units housing a cafe, bar and possibly a bakery.

There will also be a restaurant, rooftop gardens, a concierge service and a gym onsite, and under ground parking. The project is expected to be finished by next September.
