A LEIGH pub will host a national event celebrating beer.

The Crooked Billet in High Street, Leigh, will host the National Beer Showcase on Monday.

At the event there will be six district beers from breweries across the country.

Guest speakers will be at the event next Monday and tastings, workshops and competitions will be on show for visitors to enjoy throughout the day.

Visitors will be able to taste a range of speciality beers from areas throughout England as well as some well known brewers.

The Hop Stuff Brewery from London, London Brewing Company and West Berkshire Brewery will all offer up their beers at the event to give visitors a choice of new beers that they have not tasted at the Leigh seafront before.

The showcase is the beginning of a six-week national celebration across the country.

It is hosted by the brewers that run the seafront pub, Nicholson’s.

The brewery that started in 1873 will have a choice of 28 beers on offer.

Food will be available throughout the event including seasonal classics such as cottage pie and baked Camembert.

A spokesperson for Nicholson’s said: “With autumn now upon us, we know that good, warming pub fare is what everyone’s after.”

The National Beer Showcase will be taking place all day at the Crooked Billet and will be running right through until Sunday, October 22.
