ADAM Ferrier feels Rochford Hundred face the toughest possible start to the London Two North East season this weekend.

Rochford are firm favourites for the title after making a number of summer signings.

But Ferrier - one of the new arrivals - is expecting a difficult first game at Sudbury.

“We know what to expect from Sudbury and it’s probably going to be our toughest test,” said Ferrier, who has lined up at hooker during pre-season.

“I’ve known Ben Scully, the head coach, for a while and know he’s a fantastic coach and would have done wonders with Sudbury.

“But we are confident in ourselves and of coming away with a win.”

Ferrier is also relishing a return to action after spending the last season on the sidelines.

“I had a year out after becoming a father and I actually approached (director of rugby) Chris Green when I felt the time was right to come back,” said Ferrier.

“I met with him and Wayne Seaby and the rest is history.

“I’m very excited about the season ahead now.

“We have a very strong squad with good coaches around us and our hopes are to be promoted.

“We also want to do that with a 100 per cent record.”

In London One North this weekend, South Woodham Ferrers head to Brentwood looking to bounce back from the 18-8 defeat they suffered against Diss on the opening day of the season, In London One South, Thurrock were also beaten in their first outing, losing 33-27 at home to Cobham.

And Dean White’s side will now be keen to bounce back when they head to Gravesend. In London Three Essex, Canvey start their season at home to East London and new head coach Perry Sansom is keen to get off to a winning start.

“I’m excited to start this journey with the lads as head coach,” said Sansom.

“I have lots of faith in the team and I am confident that their hard work will pay off this season.”

Basildon are also in action in London Three Essex as they head to Maldon.
