Police are appealing for information after 16 pallets worth of clothing was stolen from a lorry parked in Basildon.

Suspects slashed open the curtain of a silver Mercedes lorry in Bramston Way between 7.30pm yesterday, Monday September 11, and 4.20am today Tuesday, September 12.

The clothing stolen including blue jeans, socks and sportswear and was estimated to be worth a six-figure sum of cash.

Investigating officer Pc Barry Hilton said: “This was a high value theft of clothing from a lorry trailer while the driver was asleep in the cab.

"I urge anyone with information about the suspects or the location of the items stolen to contact officers at Basildon on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“I would ask lorry drivers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. I would also advise them to park in official lorry parks wherever possible and avoid dark remote areas.

“Leaving a cab curtain open, and leaving the cargo doors open if not carrying a load, can also help to deter thieves. Security equipment can also provide extra protection."
