STUDENTS from across Basildon received the prestigious Jack Petchey Award in front of proud parents at the Towngate Theatre.
David Harrison, the mayor of Basildon, was in attendance to present the awards to the 93 students.
He said: “What an absolutely brilliant event. It shows the impact that the Jack Petchey Foundation has in the borough, it encourages the award winners to participate in more activities. It helps every young person to achieve what they want.”
The young people aged between 11 and 25 were honoured with the awards after they were nominated by their leaders or peers. Dance groups also took the stage before a full theatre.
All 93 students received a cheque of £250 and framed certificates to go with the prestigious gold medallion. The money they have received will go towards benefitting their schools or organisations with new equipment.
Since 2007, youth organisations and schools have received £471,080 from the Jack Petchey Foundation. Chief Insp Sam Smith, Basildon’s district commander, added: “What a fabulous event to be a part of, the young people have done themselves proud.”
