The fire services were called out to extinguish three separate bonfires in the fields near the Port of Tilbury.
They were at the scene on Fort Road, Tilbury, dealing with the flames this morning and were there for around an hour and a half.
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Firefighters from Grays and Orsett were alerted to reports of a field fire at 9.12am today (Monday 18 September) near Fort Road, Tilbury.
“On arrival, fire crews found three separate bonfires, which were extinguished by 10.02am. Firefighters remained at the scene for a further 40 minutes to dampen down remaining hotspots.”
Essex Police wee also on the scene dealing with traffic.
