A CYCLIST has died following a horror crash involving a bike and a car on Canvey.

The 43-year-old man from Canvey, who was riding the bike, sadly died at the scene of the crash which happened at about 6.10am on Friday.

Three men, aged 19, 32 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after the crash at the junction of Canvey Road and Northwick Road.

The trio, who were all believed to have been travelling in the same car, have since been released under investigation.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were contacted by the ambulance service after a Volvo Estate and a cyclist were in collision.

“Sadly a 43-year-old from Canvey died at the scene.

“Three men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.”

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for anybody with dashcam footage to come forward.

Dave Blackwell, a Castle Point councillor, said the road is an accident blackspot.

He said: “It’s just awful and so sad, particularly for the family.

“That roundabout and road is so dangerous and I’m always hearing of accidents happening down there.”

Others took to social media to pay tribute to the man and claimed the road can be dangerous.

Julie Price said: “I hate this roundabout. There needs to be traffic lights there! Poor person who died.”

Glen Bull said: “Absolutely terrible. Saw it this morning and can’t stop thinking about what happened.

“Thoughts and prayers for the family, so sad.”
