Swan Housing Association and its architects Pollard Thomas Edwards and CF Moller won a prestigious housing award for their regeneration projects in Basildon.

The team won the Best Scheme in Planning award at the National Housing Awards for their development works in Laindon Shopping Centre and the Craylands Estate. The award was presented to them at the Lancaster Hotel in London.

The Laindon Shopping Centre regeneration will bring a brand new high street, Swan office, health centre and Swan’s modular homes to Laindon.

Geoff Pearce, executive director of regeneration and development at Swan, said: “As a long-standing local housing provider with a clear social purpose, we are committed to the regeneration of both the Laindon Centre and the Craylands Estate.

“To be recognised in the highly prestigious NHA 2017 awards for both these Basildon-based regenerations, highlights our commitment to bringing the highest quality of design to Basildon.

“We were particularly delighted that the judges recognised our engagement with local people too, as we strive to ensure we work with local people to create the high quality homes and communities that they want and deserve”.

Swan’s Laindon regeneration has also recently been shortlisted in the Architects’ Journal Awards 2017 for “Masterplan of the Year”.

In the summer, it won the “Best Regeneration” award at the Housing Design Awards 2017.

Rolf Nielsen from CF Moller Architects said of the Laindon project: “We are very proud to have been part of a great team working on this important project.

“To have the recognition of the National Housing Awards is a tremendous honour. We thank our collaboration partners, PTE and our client Swan, for joining us in creating and realising a strong vision for revitalising this central part of Laindon.”
