BOWERS & Pitsea central defender Lewis Clark is hoping that his unexpected goalscoring exploits continue when Norwich United visit the Len Salmon Stadium on Saturday.

Clark notched two second half goals to secure a 3-0 win at Tilbury.

And his latest brace came after scoring two goals at Romford earlier this month.

Although he admits that keeping clean sheets is his priority, Clark is delighted to have contributed at the other end of the pitch in recent weeks.

Clark said: “I haven’t ever got too many goals while playing centre-half but it is nice to have got four goals in the games against Tilbury and Romford.

“I’ve scored four goals in three games now, so I’ll take that.

“I’ll probably go on a dry spell now but I’m very pleased.

“We got a good win against Tilbury and it was also nice to keep a clean sheet.

“It’s nice to chip in with a couple of goals here and there but keeping clean sheets is my main job so keeping another one was pleasing.”

Clark’s upturn in form in front of goal could also lead to a new target being set.

Bowers manager Rob Small agreed that four goals should be Clark’s aim for the campaign.

But having netted four times in his last three outings, Clark feels that another objective should be thought of.

The defender admitted: “Before the season, the gaffer set me a target of four goals.

“I normally get three a season so I said that I would get four.

“But I have got four goals already now so I think that I’ll maybe have to set myself another target.”

Bowers took the lead eight minutes before the break at Chadfields, as Jamie Salmon found the bottom corner after latching onto a loose ball.

And Salmon turned provider three minutes after the interval.

Salmon whipped a dangerous free kick into the Tilbury penalty area, and Clark expertly flicked the ball past Dockers goalkeeper Clarke Bogard.

Callum Leahy was shown a straight red card for violent conduct late on.

Despite going down to 10 men, Clark scored from close range a minute later.

And Clark is hoping Bowers can register a fifth consecutive win against Norwich United.

Clark added: “We’ve got Norwich United on Saturday.

“They will be travelling a long way and it will be another tough game.

“But we have got four league wins in a row now so hopefully we can go on and get a fifth this weekend.”
