Several police officers were on Seabrooke Rise following reports that lead had been stolen from a roof.
Police were on the scene at 8:35pm on Sunday night.
The lead was recovered but no arrests were made and an investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were called to reports of someone stealing lead from a roof at an address in Seabrooke Rise, Grays at around 8.35pm on Sunday, October 1.
"Officers attended. Lead was recovered and investigations are ongoing."
