A charity store which has raised funds for Muscular Dystrophy for the past 21 years is changing charity.

The shop, in South Woodham Ferrers, was founded in February 1997 by volunteer Audrey Hatcher, with the support of the Chelmsford Branch of Muscular Dystrophy UK.

But the volunteers, including Audrey, have decided to cease working with Muscular Dystrophy and are going to use the shop for a different charitable venture.

Cat Woodhead, Director of Development at Muscular Dystrophy UK, said: “It is thanks to people like Audrey and our shop volunteers that treatments that could change and extend the lives of people with these conditions are making their way through clinical trials today.

“We are delighted that there will be a new charity shop for the community on Warwick Parade which many of the volunteers will continue to support, making an invaluable difference to the lives of others.”

The store received publicity back in July after a car went through front and caused the store to temporarily close.
