VISITORS of all ages went along to Leigh Fire Station to enjoy an open day.

The event saw families arrive to look around the fire station and have a close look at the various engines.

There were five fire engines on the forecourt as well as a variety of stalls.

As well as enjoying the exciting elements of visiting a fire station, visitors also had an opportunity to learn about fire safety from fire officers who gave live demonstrations.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said the day was a great success.

They said: “It’s a day for the people in the local community to come down and see what the fire department do.

“We did live demonstrations and safety messages for the people visiting.

“It was also a chance for the kids sit in our fire engines.”

Essex fire service often holds open days.

They are a chance for the public to attend and learn about the role of a firefighter while also enjoying themselves and getting youngsters out for a day which is both fun and end educational.
