THURROCK were humbled by an excellent London Cornish showing as they went down 57-35 in London One South.

The Ts conceded more points than they had at any point in the last two years, although did come away with a try-scoring bonus point.

And they were caught out early on by the electric speed of former Northampton Saint and England 7s international David Smith, with George Kimmins touching down after 60 seconds.

London Cornish had started the match on fire and were soon 19-0 up before securing the bonus point with more than 10 minutes of the half to play.

A penalty try made it 33-0, with Thurrock losing a man from the infringement, although the visitors were to get on the board when Trent White wriggled free for a converted try by Jake Barrand on 34 minutes.

The hosts responded with a try of their own and ended a blistering first-half 47-7 to the good, against a team who had the fourth best defensive record in the division ahead of the clash.

Thurrock scored a second converted try on 50 minutes when Ben Stanley, making his second appearance in five seasons, went over - Barrand again getting the conversion.

Cornish went over 50 points with 22 minutes remaining, although Thurrock took advantage of two home yellow cards to get a foothold in the game.

After a period of territorial dominance, Tom Pool scored close to the posts with 15 minutes remaining, Barrand adding the extras.

And the away support was given something to take home when they landed the bonus point try with five minutes to play.

Debutant Anthony Catchpole went over to give Barrand a simple conversion, which added some gloss to the score.

And this was further exacerbated when Barrand himself ran through to score and convert the final try of the day.
