CANVEY Island will be aiming for back to back wins when they travel to table-topping Braintree in London Three Essex this tomorrow.

Canvey recorded their first win of the season last Saturday, beating Mavericks 39-15.

And Canvey’s head coach Perry Sansom is now looking to build on that victory.

“It was a good performance last weekend and it was good to get our first win but we need keep it going now,” said Sansom.

“I still felt there was room for improvement but I am confident the team is not far away from where we need to be.

“We’re facing top of the league Braintree tomorrow and we will be without three first team players who are injured.

“But we will still field a good side and hopefully we can come away with the win.”

Canvey - who sit fifth in the table - will be without skipper Charlie Clarke this weekend while full-back Jack Chandler will also be missing with an injury.

But full-back Alfie Justice is desperate to help the Islanders secure another win "We haven't had the best of starts but sometimes you have to go backwards before you can go forwards and we're learning from our mistakes," said the 17-year-old.

"On Saturday we're expecting it to be tough but if we play in the right areas and break them down where we know we can we'll come away with a good result.

"Our hopes for the rest of the season are to do get promoted firstly and to develop as a squad with new boys such as myself coming in this season, to gel with the team and perform."

Basildon sit immediately above Canvey in the table and will be confident of securing their fourth win in five games when they host second from bottom Upminster, who have triumphed just once in three outings, this weekend.

In London North tomorrow, 10th placed South Woodham Ferrers will be looking for their first away win of the season when they head to seventh placed Eton Manor.

In London One South, 11th placed Thurrock host a Brighton side sitting two places above them in the standings.

Thurrock have been beaten in their last three outings and will be desperate to get back on track against their visitors who will be looking to make it three matches unbeaten.
