A man was Tasered following a fight and the discovery of a cache of weapons.

Police, ambulance and a helicopter were called to Southwark Path, Basildon, on Sunday just before 1pm to reports of a fight.

Officers recovered a sword, several knives and a small hatchet. Police Tasered one man who was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon

A witness has spoken about police tasering a man, who “dropped like a sack of potatoes”, during his arrest following a fight between two groups.

Neil Cole, 48, a taxi driver from Value Cars, was driving onto the roundabout at Ashlyns, coming from Broadmayne.

Mr Cole said he saw officers speaking to a man who was backing away from the police.

Mr Cole said: “I was driving to the little car park by Northlands Park to wait for my next job. I saw about five officers and a guy exchanging some words.

“I slowed down, I saw the guy backing up from the police and he ran right in front of my car. Police Tasered him and he dropped like a sack of potatoes, he looked like he was in a seizure. It just all happened so quickly. It was just so intense, because it was all happening right in front of me.

“I had stopped the car before he ran. It was just driver’s instinct when you know something or someone would land in the road.

“The guy fell on the ground just two or three feet away from my car. I couldn’t drive on, there were armed police everywhere.

“We were notified by the company there were guys with machetes around Craylands. We were told to be careful and to be vigilant.”

Police confirmed no one was injured during the fight. However, they were unable to confirm the number of people who were involved.

Police has reassured residents that there is no ongoing risk to the wider public. A man remains in custody.
