A second trampoline park in Basildon appears to have closed down suddenly.

Dropzone, in Town Square, North Gunnels, featured wall to wall trampolines over 9,000sq ft, a foam pit, basketball hoops and dodgeball tournaments.

The centre only opened in March 2015.

At the time, the Echo reported that the owners, a family from Woodford Green, East London, were inspired to open the centre after watching an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians three years ago, where the celebrity sisters were seen trampolining.

However, the phone line now rings out and the website is apparently “down for maintenance”.

The site itself is also closed, with the lights off and the doors locked.

No explanation for the unexpected closure has been given and whether it is permanent or not.

It is the second trampoline park to close, after Gravity Force Basildon, at Festival Leisure Park, announced in August last year that it was shutting.

The trampoline park had only been open for five months.

There have also been other closures in the town centre recently, with Roadhouse Diner announcing closure earlier this year due to increasing costs, high rents and location.

Labour councillor David Burton-Sampson said: “The trampoline park only opened about a year and a half ago.

“That is a massive shame and a massive blow to the town centre, especially given the council’s plans for the cinema complex.

“It is people’s jobs that are being lost.

“The trampoline park was well used - I used to see people going in there quite often.”

Basildon Council has recently unveiled a whole new look for the town centre, featuring a 10-screen cinema and new restaurants for East Square, Basildon.

Despite all the closures, plans for a new go-karting track have been approved for Festival Business Park, next to Festival Leisure.

It is thought the new attraction could employ up to 40 people.
