SOUTHEND Saxons’ winless start to the London & SE Premier Division season continued with a 66-3 defeat at Guernsey.
The setback was Southend’s sixth in succession and saw them slip back down to the bottom of the table without a point to their name.
Young fly-half Tom Ramsey kicked the Saxons’ only points but captain Ian Morrison was keen to remain upbeat.
“Guernsey away, when they are challenging for the top spot, was always going to be a tough game for us but, despite the result, I think it was a really spirited performance,” said Morrison.
Injuries to the front row led to uncontested scrums and saw the Saxons down to 14 men after just half an hour in accordance with the RFU’s man off guidelines.
Saxons: Navarro, O’Brien, Griffiths, Johnson, Radzevicius, Ramsey, Sprangers, Reeman, Forster-Knight, Bailey, Archer, Newton, Wood, Morrison, Shields
Replacements: Lopez, Maggiolo & O’Kill
