ORGANISERS of one of the biggest firework displays in Essex are gearing up for this year’s event.

Southend Round Table’s Big Beach Bang takes place at Shoebury East Beach on Saturday, November 4.

The charity event raised £15,000 in 2015 and more than £20,000 for good causes last year and organisers hope this year will raise even more.

Members of Southend Round Table 106 last year put in place a partnership scheme whereby they approached local charities to help assist with the set up and organisation of the event, including marshalling and dismantling.

In return for their assistance, they receive a substantial donation from Round Table .

A spokesman said: “In 2016 we had volunteers from Harp, Relay for Life Southend and Cancer Research Southend. Each charity, in proportion to the volunteers on site during and assisting at the event, received up to a one-off donation of £2,500 per charity. The scheme is running again this year.

“This year’s event is again seeing volunteers from Harp and Olympus, alongside other groups. “Because of this volunteering scheme 100 per cent of ticket sales is donated to local charities and causes within the local community and surrounding areas, and more specifically to individuals in our community who struggle to raise much needed money when they are up against the bigger national charities, one of the reasons why Harp is on board again this year.”

Southend Round Table would like to see this partnership grow in the coming years with other smaller charities coming on board.

This year, the Round Table has also secured sponsorship from local businesses, donation of tickets from Cliffs Pavilion and c2c are on board with extra trains.
