A man held a woman in a Basildon newsagents at knifepoint, demanded her to hand over the money in the shop's till.
The man walked into Martins Newsagents in Whitmore Way at around 8am on Thursday October 12 and demanded the female member of staff that she hand over a three figure sum of money, while threatening her with a knife.
Police have described the man as being white, 5ft 10ins tall, aged in his 30s and of a medium build.
He wore blue disposable type overalls with the hood up covering some of his face.
Dc Clive Hammond, of Basildon CID, said: “This was particularly frightening incident where a member of staff has been threatened at knife-point in broad daylight.
"The suspect was callous and would have been noticeable having worn distinctive clothing.
“We are urging anyone who has information or saw a person of this description to contact us.
"You may also have CCTV or dash cam footage that covered the nearby area at the time and we urged you to call 101 quoting incident 149 of 12/10 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
