Basildon Council has appointed its new managing director.

The new managing director, Scott Logan, was appointed to the new senior position at a meeting of the Council on Thursday October 12.

Mr Logan joined Basildon Council in 2007 and has been the Commissioning Director People and Place since 2012. He has been responsible for housing, environment, community, leisure, democratic services, IT and customer services.

The council also confirmed the appointment of Kieran Carrigan to the Corporate Director position. Mr Carrigan is currently commissioning director for resourcing and place shaping and has the responsibility, which he will keep, of chief financial officer.

Mr Logan said: “I’m immensely proud to be given the opportunity to lead Basildon Council at this exciting time. As someone who has lived in the borough for 14 years and worked for the council for 10 years, I couldn’t be more passionate about making a positive difference to the area.

“I will ensure the council has a sharp focus on improving the lives of all residents across the borough and creating opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses. I look forward to working with councillors, our community and our partners in the public and private sectors, who share this common purpose.”

Councillor Gavin Callaghan, chairman of the policy and resources committee, said: “I’m confident that in Scott Logan we have someone who can show the kind of leadership I believe we need in Basildon Council. Basildon is alive with opportunity and has all the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. But this won’t happen on its own, it needs active intervention from the council to shape the future the people who live and work here want.

“Scott has a real affinity with the borough. He has an open and inclusive style allied to a clear vision for Basildon. He has demonstrated a commitment to working with others to promote talent and opportunity. And together with Kieran Carrigan, who I am pleased will be our new Corporate Director, has demonstrated sound management and innovation in a difficult financial climate.

“I look forward to working with Scott, with Kieran and the new team for many years to come.”

Recruitment for Service Director, the final post in the council’s new three-strong collaborative leadership team, will now take place.

Applications will be invited from senior managers inside the council. The new management team was put in place following the departure of the council’s previous chief executive in July 2017.
