HAVING suffered two consecutive Essex Senior League defeats, Great Wakering Rovers will be aiming to bounce back to winning ways in the FA Vase.

Iain O’Connell’s side make the trip to Holland FC for their first round tie tonight, and moving a step closer to Wembley will be at the forefront of their minds.

An away defeat to Clapton last weekend resulted in Wakering losing their grip on top spot.

And the chances of an instant return to the Isthmian North, following their relegation last term, was furthered hampered by a 1-0 defeat at home to Sawbridgeworth Town in midweek.

But the Eastern Counties League Division One side will be looking to compound Wakering’s misery and condemn O’Connell’s charges to three losses on the spin this evening.

Meanwhile, Basildon United will also be in FA Vase action as they welcome Biggleswade to the Stuart Bingham Stadium tomorrow.

The 3-1 win over Barkingside last time out, which came after a 3-2 reverse at Woodford Town, saw Marc Harrison’s men climb back up to second in the Essex Senior League standings.

And, having made an impressive start to the season following Harrison’s appointment as Aaron Bloxham’s successor in the summer, the Bees will be confident of seeing off the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division visitors and book their place in the next round of the competition.

Hullbridge Sports will take on Colney Heath, with the side looking to build confidence and put together an unbeaten streak.

Sports have only mustered three Essex Senior League victories so far this campaign.

And a win over the SSMFL Premier Division side would allow Sports to progress to the second round of the competition.

Meanwhile, Southend Manor will be in Essex Senior League action.

And with a host of divisional rivals in cup action, Stuart Marshall’s side will be eager to climb the standings.

Bottom of the table Wadham Lodge are tomorrow’s visitors.

A surprise Essex Senior Cup win over National League South frontrunners Braintree Town has resulted in an upturn in form, which Manor will be looking to continue.
