A Hovefield resident has spoken of her horror as vandals targeted her home with large firework rockets.

Jill Walsh, 63, who is the spokesman of Hovefields Resident Association and has campaigned for many years to stop Hovefields becoming the next Dale Farm, suffered several nights of terror and anguish as yobs damaged her property.

She said: "For the past week my home has been subjected to a vicious onslaught of attacks.

"A week ago today we were subjected to ten high powered rockets being aimed maliciously and deliberately at our home and our car and large burning fireworks thrown onto our drive close to the front door.

"The following morning we discovered that our garage window had been smashed and a very large rocket was laying inside on the floor.

"Last Friday, we came under attack.

"At 8.40pm there was an enormous bang on our kitchen window and a huge flaming rocket lay underneath it; this was after several rockets had been fired at us, all missing the target.

"Tuesday night was the most sustained and violent onslaught so far.

"Ten huge rockets were aimed at our home and car over the space of a minute - it was terrifying."

However, she praised the police saying their response was "immediate", but sadly after patrolling the area no one was to be seen.

She added: "I cannot fault the police at all. Immediately the police left the area, there were five or six loud bangs on all our windows and the kitchen window was smashed.

"Inside the double glazed unit there was a large stone which had obviously been catapulted at it.

"Again the police returned rapidly and patrolled the area, again there was no-one to be seen.

"My neighbours came down as they had heard all the fireworks and were worried about our safety. Whilst they were at our home, a further barrage of stones were catapulted at our home.

"Two of the neighbours rushed out and saw juveniles in hoodies standing behind an adjacent fence firing at us. These youths ran away immediately and disappeared into the darkness."

Ms Walsh fears there will be continued attacks.

She said: "I really do not know where this will end.

"If one of these high powered rockets comes through my window whilst I am in the vicinity, we could be looking not at criminal damage, but serious personal injury or worse."
