A small group of Year 11 and Year 13 students from Southend High School for Girls spent the afternoon with Year 5 pupils and their teachers at St Mary’s Prittlewell Church of England Primary School.

The Year 11 girls ran two dance workshops to coincide with the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The workshops showed the pupils how to do some dance moves, and they encouraged the boys and girls to share their own dance styles with everyone too.

The Year 13 students taught numbers and animals in Hindi, along with the story of Diwali, and were impressed by how quickly the pupils picked up the new language.

A spokesman for the school said: “There was also a solo dance by one of the pupils in the assembly at the end of the day and she was loudly applauded for her wonderful display of skill and grace.

“The afternoon was great fun for all involved and it followed on from an equally enjoyable morning of Japanese at St Mary’s earlier in February.”
