A teenage racing driver from Basildon has been shortlisted in the Active Essex Young Sports Personality of the Year 2017 awards after a stunning season.

Emily Linscott, 14, from Langdon Hills, has been shortlisted alongside just two other athletes from the county for the prestigious award.

Her nomination has come after competing in three Ginetta Junior Championship meetings as well as a fifth place spot in a Silverstone meeting, in only her second competitive drive.

Speaking about appearing at the awards, which will be held at Chelmsford racecourse on December 5, she said: “I’m really shocked about this, I didn’t even know I’d been nominated. I’m so proud to have made it this far, it’s amazing. This year has been such a big leap for me from karts to cars in under a year.”
