Basildon Council has confirmed the developer it has chosen as it extends its ambitious New Homes Programme.

At a recent housing and community contracts sub-committee meeting, councillors awarded Indecon Building Ltd the contract.

The Wickford-based company will design and build 15 houses, in Roman Way, Billericay.

The homes will be built on behalf of Sempra Homes, which is a council owned company.

The scheme will comprise a mix of homes including affordable rent, shared ownership and market sale. The developer will also build new homes in Laindon.

Indecon will engage with the nearby Billericay School to arrange a number of safe and controlled site tours at different phases of the construction process.

Councillor Kerry Smith, chairman of the housing and community contracts sub-committee, said: “The award of these contracts marks a significant milestone in the progress of our New Homes Programme, which will provide excellent housing opportunities to our residents as well as the borough’s key workers. It’s also excellent to see local companies competing for these contracts and giving back to the community.

“We are committed to reviving locations which are at risk of falling into disrepair and redeveloping underused land, which can also help reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in our communities.”
