Essex train operator c2c has officially opened its new secure cycle shed and platform shelter at Pitsea rail station.

The ribbon was cut by councillor Mike Steptoe, Essex County Council’s deputy cabinet member for environment and waste, and c2c delivery director Joel Mitchell.

The passenger shelter and 30-space cycle unit were jointly funded by Essex County Council.

Mr Steptoe said: “These works are the result of great partnership working between Essex County Council and c2c, which ultimately improves the passenger experience for users of the station as well as providing more accessible and good quality sustainable transport infrastructure.”

The improvements are part of c2c’s £40million upgrade which includes replacing 200 platform benches alongside extra trains and free onboard wi-fi.
