CHRISTMAS has officially come to Southend as thousands of families enjoy a host of festive activities, ending with the town’s lights being switched on and fireworks.
There were events on all day, including local musicians performing on the main stage at Victoria Circus, introduced by Dom Atkins and Heart Essex stars Martin and Su.
The Christmas market offered visitors the chance to start their Christmas shopping, with a range of gifts from local craftspeople.
More music was on offer at the BBC Essex stage, where choirs, singers and bands entertained the crowds.
The farmers’ market had a variety of food options both for eating on the day and for taking home.
The Victoria Shopping Centre offered free face-painting, a chance to meet the glorious Glitter Belles and have your photo taken with super-friendly elves in the Elf Booth.
Meanwhile, The Royals Shopping Centre gave people the chance to stroke a magical, lifelike polar bear, win prizes and meet Father Christmas himself.
The lights were switched on by Martin and Su who led the countdown before Southend was transformed ready for Christmas.
To finish the day, the Big Beach Bang fireworks display amazed crowds over the seafront.
Despite the cold weather, the turn out was excellent and everyone enjoyed the festive event.
