Southend singer Matt Linnen has said he will leave the music profession if appearing on the X Factor does not launch his career.

The 28-year-old has been trying to break into the music industry for years, and is hopeful that the singing contest could be the springboard he needs.

Matt, a plasterer, performed Fallin last night on the show.

In a shock twist, two acts – Sam Black and Sean and Conor Price – were voted off on the Saturday night.

Matt, a father-of-three, told The Mirror: “I’ve got nothing, I don’t own my own place. I want to leave my kids stuff.

“I wouldn’t be able to do that if I’m a failed musician. If nothing comes of this I’m going to retire from music. I’ve given it a good go.”

He added: “I’m getting a lot of female attention. I’m getting marriage proposals, one woman tweets me all the time begging me to marry her. Then there are messages I can’t share as they’re just too rude.

“I’m not looking for a relationship. If something came along, cool. It’s more attractive when women play hard to get.

“When women throw themselves at you it’s a turn-off.

“I like to meet a girl in the moment and see how things work.”
