Don't panic if you see smoke coming from Southend Pier - this is why
The council is to host an emergency planning exercise on the pier today from 1pm, in partnership with blue-light services.
The exercise will test emergency plans and major incident plans in response to a simulated emergency scenario taking place on the pier.
There will be smoke seen from the pier, as well as emergency services.
