ONE of the borough’s oldest residents has celebrated her 102nd birthday in style.
Essie Rose lived independently until she was 100 when she moved into Hollymede Cottage Care Home, in Wickford.
She celebrated her milestone birthday at the care home with a special party, attended by the deputy mayor of Chelmsford, Jon de Vries.
Mrs Rose, whose husband Manny sadly died 30 years ago, was a seamstress her whole life and during the war she joined the fire brigade.
She has two sons, John and Keith.
Keith said: “It was wonderful, she had a great time.
“The home was really good, organising a cake, balloons and a tea party for her.
“She was up and dancing with the deputy mayor and the other people.”
