MAN has died on Canvey after being hit by a car.
The man, in his 80s, was killed in Fairlop Avenue at the junction with Long Road.
Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after 4.35pm with reports a pedestrian had been hit by a Renault Clio.
Sadly the pedestrian died at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics.
A 56-year-old man, from Canvey, has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.
A section of the road is closed off while forensic examination work was carried out. Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
