A GP surgery is set to leave almost 2,000 patients searching for a new practice after its closure was announced.

The Family Healthcare Practice at Lydia House in Sutherland Boulevard, Leigh will close in April following a letter sent to patients at the turn of the New Year.

Following the announcement of the closure A spokesman for Southend CCG, said: “A letter has recently been sent to patients of Family Healthcare Practice based at Lydia House, Leigh-on-sea to notify them of some forthcoming changes that will occur in April 2018.

“NHS Southend CCG received notice of an intention to end an existing contract at which currently provides GP services at Family Healthcare Practice, for a registered population of 1,898, one of the smallest practices in south east Essex.”

The Queensway Surgery in Southend is run by the same contract holder as Lydia House.

Although both practices are run by the same contractor, Queensway will remain open.

It will be unaffected by the closure of the Lydia House practice.

Southend CCG said that before the practice closes for good in April, all 1,900 of its registered patients will be given space to attend a different practice in the area.

The spokesperson added: “The CCG and Lydia House is working to identify a solution that ensures patients receive safe high quality care with as little disruption as possible.

“We would like to reassure patients registered at Lydia House that they will not be left without GP services."

The two drop-in sessions will be held at the practice in Sutherland Boulevard next week for patients to ask any questions they may have regarding the practice’ closure.

The first set will take place on Monday January 8 at 4pm and 6pm.

The second shall be held on Friday January 12 at 11am and 1pm.
