A former model has set up an organisation in a bid to educate girls about endometriosis at schools.

Carla Cressy, 26, from Leigh, founded the organisation, Women With Endometriosis, at the beginning of this year.

The organisation has garnered much support from politicians and medical professionals. Southend West MP Sir David Amess is the trustee.

Currently the organisation is in the process of registering as a charity. It campaigns to push for education of endometriosis to be taught to 14-18 year old girls at school so they are aware of the early symptoms.

Ms Cressy, ambassador for endometriosis, said: “We have worked very hard to build-up this organisation. We are determined to raise awareness of this life-ruining illness and not many people know about it. It has generated a lot of support. I have much support from reputable medical experts and they have become trustees.

“Last week, Sir David met with members of the Department of Education to discuss our campaign. It’s really moving forward. Not only are we raising awareness in the country, but also overseas.

Last year Ms Cressy was diagnosed with the condition which almost took her life.

Endometriosis is where tissues that act like the lining of the womb is found elsewhere in the body.

The condition affects one in ten women, causing pseudo-menopausal symptoms. She will be having her fourth surgery tomorrow.

The organisation has also set up a petition for parliament, where they need to collect 10,000 signatures for the it to be considered for debate in Parliament.
