NEW Southend United boss Chris Powell is close to bringing in an assistant manager.
Powell - who will take charge of training for the first time today - held talks with chairman Ron Martin yesterday.
And the 48-year-old hopes to soon be able to bolster his coaching team.
“Hopefully we’re close to bringing someone in,” said Powell.
“He will be negotiating with Ron and I don’t get involved in that side of things.
"But further down the line I may look to bring in another coach.”
Powell has traditionally worked alongside Alex Dyer during his managerial career but he is now working with Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock.
Damian Matthew, who worked with Powell at Charlton, has also been linked to the post.
