A police investigation has been launched into Billericay Town FC boss, Glenn Tamplin after it was alleged he threatened a player.

Following a reported row with Town defender, Elliot Kebbie over his £4,000 a month contract, it is claimed that Mr Tamplin sent a message to the 23-year-old, saying he ‘did not want to get gangsters involved’.

A police investigation was launched after it was alleged death threats had also been made to his family.

Essex Police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched into Mr Tamplin.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are investigating after receiving a report of blackmail on October 7.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The big money deal given to Mr Kebbie, who had previously been on the books of Atlético Madrid, Leeds United and Hull City, was set to keep him at the club for two years, with an option to extend for another 12 months.

Mr Kebbie joined the club in August 2017.

However, after just a few weeks, it is said Billericay's owner and manager, Mr Tamplin wanted to reduce Mr Kebbie's wage.

The Sun reported that the player had refused a £5,000 payout to leave the club, saying he wanted to see out his contract.

It was then reported that Mr Kebbie was blocked from training with his teammates.

A club source told The Sun: “Police have been investigating Mr Tamplin and Billericay Town for a few months now.

“There are various aspects to their investigation.”

The Echo have contacted Billericay Town Football Club for comment regarding the investigation.
