ANTIsocial behaviour has forced part of a bus service through Hullbridge to be cancelled again.

The number 20 bus service ended at Coventry Corner around a week ago as a result of a few cases of anti-social behaviour near to Ferry Road.

The service, run by First Bus Group was reinstated two days later. Now First have ended the service at Coventry Corner again after it was said bricks were thrown at the front of the number 20 buses.

On Tuesday, First said the service would stop running at Rayleigh rail station from 8pm.

After news of the cancellation, Stuart Wilson, councillor for Hullbridge, expressed his disappointment at the service being removed again.

He said: “After the bus service was reinstated, there were two incidents where bricks were thrown at two buses.

“It has gone beyond anti-social behaviour and something needs to be done.

“The service was cancelled to protect the people who use the First Bus Group.”

Reports have said the bricks and other objects thrown at the buses had shattered the front windscreen of the buses.

Mr Wilson said: “I do not have a solution because what can you do to get it back up and running when these things are happening?

“I feel like we are going around in circles.

“It is not really acceptable to have a no-go area in Hullbridge because of anti-social behaviour.”

First tweeted they would be offering a shuttle service in Hullbridge while the service is off, which Mr Wilson said had been suggested by the First depot manager in Hadleigh

First Essex tweeted: “We will be trialling a shuttle service service between Rayleigh and Hullbridge after 8pm from Thursday February 8.

“The shuttle service will run as closely as possible to the normal number 20 timetable, but may vary slightly.”
